WWE raw results, recap, grades: Seth Rollins fails yet again to secure a spot at WrestleMania

Despite opportunities to score a spot on the upcoming WrestleMania 38 event on the past two episodes, Seth Rollins still doesn’t have a spot on the biggest show on the wrestling calendar. Rollins failed again on Raw on Monday night, losing a match with AJ Styles with a spot to Edge at WrestleMania on the line.

Rollins’ opportunity came after he spent much of Raw continuing to aim for his opportunity at WrestleMania before interrupting a Styles promo and suggesting that “The Phenomenal One” eliminate WrestleMania and allow him to go. confront Edge. WWE officials then made the main event official, Rollins vs. Styles, winner to take on Edge. But, again, Rollins’ plans were foiled, leaving him angry when the show went off the air.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from the Allstate Arena in Chicago.

Seth Rollins fails to secure WrestleMania spot…again

Seth Rollins spent the show continuing his search for a way to get the WrestleMania card. This included the interruption of the tag match between The Mysterios and the team of Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode as well as the interruption of the AJ Styles promo directed at Edge. Rollins suggested that Styles drop WrestleMania and allow him to face Edge instead. While Styles obviously declined, WWE officials Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville announced that Rollins and Styles would meet later that night, with the winner getting the match with Edge.

AJ Styles won. Seth Rollins by disqualification after Edge’s interference. After the expected solid match between Styles and Rollins, Edge ran to ringside and hit Styles in the back with a chair. This resulted in a disqualification and cost Rollins his chance at WrestleMania. Rollins grabbed a microphone after the match and announced that next week’s Raw wouldn’t happen unless he got his WrestleMania match. Rollins then destroyed the ringside area before the show aired.

Any issues with this scenario continued Monday night. Rollins was never believable as someone who wouldn’t end up on a two-night WrestleMania card, nor was it believable that WWE would throw away weeks of storytelling for Edge vs Styles to randomly hook Rollins. on the spot. So fans were just wondering how Rollins was going to miss this week and all the way Chicago fans were singing for Cody Rhodes, who would be the man to face Rollins at WrestleMania when he returns to WWE. The match was, as expected, quite correct. The story, however, lacks any kind of compelling drama and is weeks and weeks past its expiration date. Category B-

What else happened on WWE Raw?

  • Music to Steve Austin’s “Stone Cold” opened the show but that only meant the arrival of Kevin Owens in a bald cap, sporting knee pads and a full Austin outfit. Owens cut a promo as Austin before Austin’s music hit again – which was just another trick by Owens, which stunned a ringside crew member before the end of the segment.
  • The Mysterios def. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode via Pinfall when Dominik Mysterio hit Roode with a frog splash. After the match, The Miz attacked Rey Mysterio and ripped off his mask.
  • Omos beats. Commander Azeez & Apollo Crews via Fall in Handicap Match after hitting Crews with a choke bomb and pinning both men simultaneously.
  • Natalya and Shayna Baszler won. Rhea Riley & Liv Morgan via pinfall when Baszler pinned Morgan after a Hart attack. After the match, Women’s Champions Queen Zelina and Carmella attacked both teams, returning to the same page after brawling backstage earlier in the night.
  • Becky Lynch cut a promo saying that Bianca Belair is not willing to “sell her soul” in the same way that she has to be at the top of the game and that she would prove it once again at WrestleMania.
  • Finn Balor defeats. Austin Theory via pinfall with a roll-up. The finish came after Pat McAfee repeatedly distracted Theory during the game.
  • RK-Bro beats. Alpha Academy through Pinfall when Riddle hit Chad Gable with Bro Derek. After the match, Otis eliminated the two members of RK-Bro before the Street Profits arrived and eliminated the two members of Alpha Academy. However, the duo then turned on Riddle, taking him out while Randy Orton was still outside the ring.
