Wayne Rooney’s comments on Cristiano Ronaldo slammed by Piers Morgan

Rooney sat with Jamie Carragher in the Sky Sports studio for Crystal Palace’s brilliant win over Arsenal on Monday night, previewing the game and plenty more.

Social media raved about the Derby County manager, the way he met and was totally on board with much of what he had to say.

All in all, not exactly the most offensive view or opinion one could have of the 37-year-old striker who Ralf Rangnick initially dropped from his starting line due to concerns. as to his ability to work hard up front to shut down defenders.

However, Morgan, who you have to assume is the president of the unofficial CR7 supporters club, has come to the defense of his favorite footballer, like a seven-year-old child hurt by his older brother over football.

Maybe all of Morgan’s points are right, but it’s hard to take the man seriously when it comes to the subject of the former Real Madrid star.

He has often called Ronaldo the greatest player of all time, often needing to overthrow Lionel Messi in the same statements to protect his favourite.

Perhaps the Arsenal fan was just annoyed watching his team lose 3-0 to Palace and seeing their grip on the final Champions League qualifying spot slipping a bit, against rivals Tottenham Hotspur .

The former News of the World editor expressed his annoyance that the Gunners let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang go in January, and he’s been playing well for Barcelona ever since.

After Monday’s loss, he again berated Mikel Arteta for his decision, saying: “It’s actually a time for Arsenal fans to accept that Arteta made a huge season-destroying mistake by giving Aubameyang and relying on Lacazette to lead the line.

“I said it would come back to haunt us – and it is.”

Maybe he won’t be happy until they sign Ronaldo…
