UFC 273 prediction, odds, pick Korean Zombies vs. Volkanovski: MMA expert’s best fight card bets

Alexander Volkanovski says he’s determined to be known as the greatest featherweight of all time, and the champion will take another step towards that goal on Saturday in the main event of UFC 273 against fourth-ranked challenger Chan. Sung Jung. Volkanovski’s third title defense heads the main fight card for UFC 273 (10 p.m. ET) from Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville. Volkanovski won the title from former champion Max Holloway before winning a very slim decision against him in a rematch. He now faces a challenge from Jung, a tough brawler better known as The Korean Zombie.

Volkanovski is a -750 favorite (risk $750 to win $100), while Jung is a +525 underdog in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest Volkanovski vs Korean Zombie odds. In the co-main event, the bantamweight title hangs in the balance when Petr Yan (-450) takes on Aljamain Sterling (+370) in a highly anticipated rematch. Marley kicked off the UFC 2022 season in January by telling SportsLine members to support Calvin Kattar (+200) against Giga Chikadze (-240) in the featherweight main event. Kattar’s lopsided unanimous decision victory gave Marley supporters another easy winner. Everyone who followed him is upstairs. Now he has turned his attention to UFC 273. UFC 273 preview: Volkanovski vs. the Korean zombie

The main event was originally set to be a trilogy against the ultra-popular Holloway, largely because their second matchup resulted in a split decision that many observers believe favored the wrong fighter.

Volkanovski (23-1), 33, has been slow to receive the recognition usually given to a dominating champion, largely due to the reverence most MMA fans have for Holloway, but the greatness of the Australian fighter cannot be denied.

In his last fight, he narrowly escaped numerous submissions from top-ranked contender Brian Ortega and emerged with a unanimous decision victory in one of the most memorable fights the featherweight division has ever seen.

He faces a new challenge in the person of Jung (17-6), who should also receive the bulk of the public support. He’s an 11-year UFC veteran who won his first title with three dominant victories to start his UFC tenure.

The Korean zombie has seen his MMA career derailed by various injuries and compulsory military service in his native South Korea, but the 35-year-old has won three of his last four fights to once again become a title contender. The only loss of this period came against Ortega. See who to support here.

Best UFC 273 Predictions

We’ll share one of Marley’s predictions for UFC 273 here: He sides with Aleksei Oleinik (-110) to raise his hand against Jared Vanderaa (-110) in a heavyweight showdown.

Oleinik, 44, has been a professional fighter since 1996 and has remained viable thanks to his world-class grappling that has stopped many physically larger opponents. The Russian fighter defeated former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum in May 2020 but has since lost three straight fights to ranked contenders.

Oleinik retreats in competition against Vanderaa (12-7), who accepted the fight off the cuff. Even so, the 29-year-old showed punching power and athleticism while dropping three of his four fights under the UFC banner. He dropped a disputed split decision against former champion Andre Arlovski in February.

“Vanderaa could be in a lot of trouble if Oleinik takes this fight to the ground. I see Oleinik landing early and smothering Vanderaa,” Marley told SportsLine.
