Deputy Director at Nintendo Shigeru Miyamoto comes announcement on Twitter that despite being highly anticipated by fans of the franchise, the next Super Mario Bros. has actually been delayed to 2023. The film has yet to be officially named and absolutely no teaser or trailer has been released, but the originally slated for release on December 21, 2022.
“It’s Miyamoto,” the exec said. “After consulting Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. movie, we have decided to move the worldwide release to Spring 2023. April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America.” Miyamoto expressed his “deepest apologies”, but promised that “it will be worth the wait”.
This follows news that a group known as FemboyFilms has successfully restored the legendary animated film called Super Mario Bros: The Grand Mission to Save Princess Peach! The anime originally screened in Japan before being released on VHS and Betamax in 1986. Super Mario Bros.: The Grand Mission to Save Princess Peach! was directed by Masami Hata and produced by Masakatsu Suzuki with Tsunemasa Hatano. The film follows Mario and Luigi as they embark on a quest to rescue Princess Toadstool from King Koopa. The anime is known for being one of the first movies based on a video game.
