The final level and ending of the long-lost Kingdom Hearts V-Cast game has been released online.
If you’ve never heard of Kingdom Hearts for V-Cast, then first of all, aren’t you lucky. Second, the V-Cast was Verizon Wireless’ broadband service that launched in 2005, and a special Kingdom Hearts game was created exclusively for the service. It’s been known for years, but was widely considered lost media because only a few trailers and screenshots existed, and Nomura and Disney never commented on it.
Out of nowhere, YouTuber Negative Space has released a video of the final level of Kingdom Hearts V-Cast, which takes place in Maleficent’s castle. It’s unclear how Negative Space managed to get a phone with access to Kingdom Hearts V-Cast on it, but it’s clearly legit and gives us our best look at the game yet. Some have asked Negative Space to upload the game online, but it’s not yet known if they will.
The game’s synopsis states that Sora must rescue Donald and Goofy from Maleficent’s castle, as well as find a dragon’s tooth to create some kind of potion that will get rid of the darkness that “eats his heart.” Dark. After going through the castle and defeating Maleficent’s dragon form, Sora brews the potion just before the clock strikes midnight, then wakes up on the Gummi Ship unsure if it was all just a dream.
As fantastic as it may seem to see the end of long-lost media, we certainly didn’t miss a thing with Kingdom Hearts V-Cast. Not only is the plot absurd, even for Kingdom Hearts, but it’s also non-canon and feels incredibly painful to play. Just take a look at all the button presses needed to spin Sora even the slightest bit. The combat looks equally gruesome, but it’s pretty impressive to have Kingdom Hearts on a phone, at least.
