Skyrim Survey Shows Most Players Prioritize Side Quests

A survey from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim subreddit has highlighted some interesting trends in Bethesda’s classic RPG. The survey covered topics ranging from preferred game genres, chosen style of play and the priority given to players to engage in Skyrimof the main story or focused on the game’s countless side quests.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim first released over a decade ago on November 11, 2011 and was an instant hit. With so much freedom built into Skyrim, it’s natural for players to find their own unique paths through northern Tamriel. The survey, initiated by Redditor u/AlfredoTayloro, revealed some of the most popular as well as less traveled paths. 70% of the 7,500 participants said they prioritize side quests over the main story and other content when starting a new game, with only 10% of players choosing to complete the game. story about each new character. When given the choice of Warrior, Mage, or Stealth playstyles, the Sneaky Approach was favored at 45%, with the Aggressive Warrior playstyle just behind at 35%. Survey participants were also asked to specify their gameplay choices, and over 6,500 players provided additional information. The game’s Norse-inspired setting has inspired warrior-style players to emulate ancient Viking culture. Stealth archers cited the deadly nature of long range shooting as a reason for their chosen playstyle, while others also felt that stealth archery was too easy. Mage-style players enjoy the powerful feel of channeling lightning and launching fireballs with their own hands. Meanwhile, a warrior-style respondent simply replied, “Swords. Great swords.” The survey responses really bring out the full range of player preferences.

In open-world RPGs, it makes sense for players to complete the main story only once or twice before focusing their efforts on side quests. For many players, SkyrimThe main story of is not as interesting as its secondary content. Climbing the ranks of the sleazy Thieves Guild, the scholarly Mages Guild, or embarking on a quest to join the assassins of the Dark Brotherhood are very involved scenarios in their own right. The main story has plenty of competition for players’ attention, and those who’ve already completed it probably won’t be rushing for another showdown with Alduin.

Despite the playerbase’s obvious preference for secondary content, SkyrimThe main story quest shouldn’t be completely ignored. Bethesda is famous for its world building and the world of Ancient Scrolls is widely developed through Skyrim main story. Progressing through the main story is also important if players want to take advantage of Dragon Shouts, powerful special abilities the Dragonborn can use to slow down time, teleport short distances, and control minds.
