Speaking at a recent event during SXSW, Reggie revealed that when he was initially offered a job at Nintendo, all of his advisors told him he had better turn the job down. It turns out that at least part of the reason the advisers didn’t want him to move to Nintendo is that they thought he was “under fire” from Microsoft and Sony when it came to the console wars.

However, the former Nintendo executive said he decided to go against all advice from those advisers because he had a different view of the company. While more information may be revealed about his time at Nintendo and his rise in the company in his book, he said he felt the company was quite innovative. He also pointed out that all of the things people take for granted in the gaming world these days, such as gamepads and joysticks, “were all made first by Nintendo.”

While Reggie’s run at Nintendo ended in 2019, he also made it clear that while he was with the company he wasn’t afraid to do things that others in the company would have considered. as risky. This included requesting a meeting with the late Satoru Iwata which he described as something that nearly cost Reggie the job. However, he felt it was important to have a good relationship with Nintendo legends like Iwata.

Since he went from nintendo, Reggie has always been active in the gaming community in many ways. This included a fairly short stint in 2020 and 2021 with GameStop’s board.
