PlayStation jobs listing suggests Sony could be in the market for more acquisitions

PlayStation is apparently hiring a director of corporate development to help the company identify potential acquisition opportunities. This follows the announcement that Xbox was looking for a head of game strategy and development to identify some of its own potential acquisition opportunities. Xbox and PlayStation parent companies Microsoft and Sony recently caught the eye for buying Activision Blizzard and Bungie, respectively.

“Sony Interactive Entertainment is seeking a highly qualified Director of Corporate Development,” the job posting reads. “Sony Interactive Entertainment’s corporate development team works closely with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s management team and is responsible for identifying opportunities for inorganic growth through acquisitions, investments or joint ventures. The team sources, evaluates and closes transactions that are aligned with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s strategic priorities and generate significant long-term value for the company.

As well as leading the company’s consolidation process, the new recruit will apparently oversee some of PlayStation’s first-party studios. “This is a high profile and exciting role with significant exposure to leadership,” the job listing notes. Anyone who accepts the position will be offered “unique opportunities at the convergence of the global media and technology industries and a chance to influence the evolution of this rapidly changing sector”.

Duties include working with “senior executives and other internal partners to continually refine key strategic themes” at PlayStation, being a “thought leader” within the company, driving “proactive sourcing” and conduct the “deal execution process, including due diligence. , evaluation and approvals.

The job offer looks a lot like the Xbox one. This called for the new hire to “partner closely with the games leadership team to identify and assess transformative growth opportunities”. The new employee will “develop and assess the business case for content and technology acquisitions.”

This comes just days after the company began looking for a senior director for PC planning and strategy. The move has led many to believe that Sony will expand beyond the console market. “The successful candidate will be responsible for strategy and business activity within global sales channels and will deliver a unique and optimized PC sales growth and business plan to the hub and territory teams to execute”, indicated the previous job listing. “Identifying future sectors and partnerships for business growth, the plan should support the delivery of the agreed critical global channel sales metrics.”
