Olivier Giroud sitting all over Southampton defense before scoring goes viral

The weather Olivier Giroud sitting the entire Southampton defense before finishing with the outside of their boot in an FA Cup semi-final is not talked about enough.

It’s fair to say that we didn’t fully appreciate Giroud during his nine years in English football. The World Cup winner had it all, whether he was in Arsenal red or Chelsea blue.

When he swapped the Emirates for Stamford Bridge in 2018, many questioned the decision as he was never the quickest and already in his 30s.

He made everyone eat his words and perhaps his finest Chelsea moment came at Wembley in April of his debut campaign.

Chelsea faced Southampton for the chance to face Manchester United in the FA Cup final and the scores were 0-0 after a level first half.

A minute after the restart, Antonio Conte’s side were in the lead and that’s thanks to Giroud.

Eden Hazard handed the ball to the France international and he managed to get past the Saints back line, who pounced on him from all angles.

Maya Yoshida nibbled before Cedric Soares pulled out a leg to touch the ball, as Mario Lemina rushed in from behind.

As Cedric lost his balance, he fell in the way of Jan Bednarek who tripped over his full-back and keeper Fraser Forster.

Giroud maintained control and balance throughout, pushing the ball into an open net. He walked away in celebration while pointing at Hazard, but it’s clear the man has put in the most work.

It’s also worth watching in real time. Check it out below.

One fan commented: “This is beyond genius. What a player.”

Another said: ‘If it’s someone else they’re like the Puskas award!’

While a third said: ‘I’ve never seen this before, but it must be an all-timer.

Chelsea won the match 2-0 after Cesar Azpilicueta doubled their lead and they went on to win the competition, beating United 1-0 in the final.

Giroud left Les Bleus in 2021 after winning the Champions League and joining AC Milan.

Now 35, he has scored eight goals in 21 Serie A appearances and Milan top the table.
