Minecraft Speedrun co-op record is now under 2 minutes

When you think of speedruns, you often think of classics like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past or Mario Bros. Even FromSoftware titles are prime targets for speedrunners, with Elden Ring’s current record being under six minutes. Minecraft isn’t always associated with the art of speedrunning, but that didn’t stop YouTuber M8use and his team from breaking the Minecraft co-op speedrun record.

The previous record was five minutes and ten seconds, but the new record holders managed to beat it – without any problems – and set a time of one minute and fifty-six seconds. According to PCGamesN, this particular set of records is designed for a specific Minecraft seed on the Bedrock edition of the game.

M8use’s video describes the task assigned to each player on the team. It’s a charivari, showing each player picking up resources, crafting them, and throwing them in certain places for their teammates to collect and use later. It really is a well-coordinated process that could be completely undone by one wrong step. Kudos to the team for completing this herculean task in less than two minutes. Minecraft speedrunning has multiple categories, this record was set in “cooperative any% glitchless set seed 1.16.100+” category.

On the other side of the cube, there’s a Minecreft movie in the works, and in addition to being very pixelated, it will star Jason Momoa. The film will be directed by Jared Hess and will be based on a screenplay by Allison Schroeder. Vu Bui, Roy Lee, Mary Parent and Lydia Winters will produce it. We don’t know much about the plot, but it will follow a group of adventurers who save Overworld from the Ender Dragon.

The film experienced a number of delays due to the Covid 19 pandemic. In fact, there were also rumors that its distributor, Warner Bros. Pictures, would cancel the film entirely due to all these delays. However, it looks like the Minecraft movie is back on track, and a big name like Jason Momoa might be all it needs to get to the finish line.
