Warning: Main spoiler in front Thor: Love and Thunder! If you haven’t seen the movie, go back now!
Marvel fans think they’ve seen a huge MCU plot hole opened by Thor: Love and Thunder (H / T The Independent) (Opens in new tab)) In the movie, Christian Bell’s Gov. The God Butcher plans to kill Marvel’s gods – and to do so, he wants to visit Eternity, a kind of cosmic goodwill that gives anyone who arrives in it a wish.
Clearly, this is an incredible force at MCU … and it raises some questions, especially considering reaching eternity through Bifrost, which could call for Thor’s ax stormbreaker. “So glad that Thor knew about eternity all this time and never once thought he wanted to overturn Snap or undo all the horrible things Thanos did.” Indicates a person (Opens in new tab). “Even he had a stormbreaker, the literal key to this power the whole time !!!”
“Ummm someone else noticed the plot hole in #ThorLoveAndThunder – if Eternity could give a” final wish “then why didn’t Thor want to overturn all of Thanos’ work using Biffrost / Stormbreaker in the endgame? No time-robbery bail loss?” Asks someone else (Opens in new tab).
“Why didn’t Thanos go to eternity and just want half of the universe to disappear? Looks like it could have saved him a lot of time and hassle? Rather than collecting colored stones.” This person wonders (Opens in new tab).
But Not everyone (Opens in new tab) Sure it’s a plot hole: “How? Obviously you need a necrosword to know that Bifrost leads to eternity. There’s no necrosword, no knowledge. Thanos and Thor didn’t know. Where’s the plot-hole?” So, although Thor knew what eternity was, it is possible that he did not know how to get to it.
“It was clear they didn’t know what the key was until they saw the notes in Gore’s secret dormitory, so even if they got to Eternity they didn’t know how to enter so it’s not really a plot hole.” Another fan said (Opens in new tab). Jane Foster, aka The Mighty Thor, discovered the key to opening Bifrost Eternity after discovering Gare’s research.
This is probably not a major plot hole, but it raises some questions. It remains to be seen whether Eternity can still perform at MCU but, judging by the post-credit scenes of Profit and Thunder, we can assume we’ll see more from Thor, perhaps wondering what will happen in a potential Thor 5. Post-credits include Cameo and the return of Jane and Heimdal to Valhalla.
