House Republicans push for Biden admin to get migrant info from terrorist database

FIRST ON FOX: Republicans on the House Oversight and Homeland Security Committees are pushing the Biden administration for information on the number of migrants encountered at the southern border that are on the Terrorism Screening Database (TSDB)

Representatives James Comer and John Katko, who are ranking members of the Oversight and Homeland Security Committees, respectively, wrote to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas asking for details about the apprehension of potentially terrorist foreign nations.

“It is no secret that terrorists and other malicious actors attempt to exploit weaknesses in border security and controls to enter the United States,” says the letter, first obtained by Fox News Digital.

“Reports indicate that several individuals with terrorism connections have recently been apprehended after crossing the border illegally, and such encounters may increase,” they write. “The American people deserve to know if President Biden’s weak border policies allow terrorists to enter our homeland.”

The Terrorism Screening Database (TSDB) contains information on the identity of those who are “known or reasonably suspected” of being involved in terrorist activities. Republican lawmakers have repeatedly called for the number of people encountered at the border to be made public,

The continued influx of migrants at the border has raised fears that the number of migrants with information about the TSDB could increase as bad actors seek to exploit the crisis.

Rodney Scott, former Border Patrol Chief repeatedly sounded the alarm over the number of TSDBs crossing the border, saying fellow officers that it was “on a level that we have never seen before”.

“We have terrorist threats that we can’t get into in this type of forum, but they are real,” he said. Fox News’ Bret Baier in October.

Comer and Katko criticized the administration’s attempts to keep it marked “law enforcement sensitive” — an assessment they strongly disputed.

“The American people deserve to know this information and the realities of the security situation we face at our broken borders, especially where terrorists attempt to enter our country,” they write.

They ask for documents showing the number of migrants linked to the TSDB in each fiscal year from 2016 to the present, as well as information on their country of origin.

Finally, they ask for documents showing the status of deportation proceedings against these same migrants, as well as data estimating the number of “runaways” – migrants who crossed the border but escaped border patrol. .
