Hideo Kojima Shinzo Abe has been mistakenly identified as the killer

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been assassinated while delivering a speech. The suspect was immediately arrested and later identified as Tetsuya Yamagami. Images from the scene were widely circulated in the news and on the Internet, leading some internet trolls to draw a parallel between Yamagami and metal gear maker Hideo Kozima.

Ignorance reached a whole new level when right-wing French politician Damien Rueau tweeted a picture of Cozima, with a caption that translated “extreme left murder”. The tweet was deleted, but a Greek news station used Kozima’s picture in its section on Abe’s murder.

Abe was giving a speech in the western Nara region when he was shot twice by Yamagami. According to reports, he suffered serious neck injuries, but eventually died of a chest injury – causing severe internal bleeding. Videos of the incident began to flood social media, but Facebook and Twitter eventually deleted all such clips. Abe was a far-right politician whose divisive policies revolved around a platform of ultra-conservative nationalism and popular historical revisionism.

“Tetsuya confessed to the police about his activities, admitting that he wanted Abe dead because he was frustrated and upset with him,” the news department said, according to Kotaku. “The police know that [the culprit] He has served in the Navy Special Forces and taught a unit at a medical school on physiotherapy for dementia patients. He was a fan of Che Guevara. “

Various news sources have used pictures of Kozima wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt, posing with a poster and other such images to create a description that the suspect was influenced by Guevara’s ideology.

According to the BBC, Yamagami was arrested shortly after Abe was shot. After an interrogation, Japanese authorities revealed that he had used a hand-made gun and said he had resentment against a “certain agency.” The investigation revealed that similar handmade weapons as well as explosives were found in the residence of the suspect. Authorities have not disclosed what this “specific agency” is or whether it is part of Abe.

Hideo Kojima has not yet made any statement or response.
