The Google Pixel Watch hasn’t even been announced yet, but we’re already hearing it might get a sports-focused spin-off called Pixel Watch Fit, which may or may not land at the same time.
According to the lessor @VNchocoTaco on Twitter, Google is either working on a separate model with that name or possibly considering calling the standard Pixel Watch the Pixel Watch Fit.
Either way, this wearable apparently has very thick bezels and could cost around $400 (about £315 / AU$555). For reference, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 starts at just $249.99 / £249 / AU$399, and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic starts at $349 / £349 / AU$549. So in the US, anyway, the Pixel Watch Fit might be the most expensive mainstream wearable without Apple in the name.
Pixel Watch might have the name or another model with the name “Pixel Watch Fit” Very thick bezels Price might be around ~$400 According to my source after seeing the leaked images. pic.twitter.com/HMeAjJ3TVkApril 24, 2022
This could also be the case in other regions, as price conversions are rarely accurate, and it could at least match the Apple Watch, as the Apple Watch 7 starts at $399 / £369 / AU$599 .
Of course, that’s just a rumor for now, but there’s more than one source pointing at least to the Pixel Watch Fit name, with @chunvn8888 (another donor) also saying they had heard that name.
In response to one of these tweets, @ianzelbo (a rendering artist) claimed to have seen both aluminum and stainless steel models of the Pixel Watch, and speculated that the aluminum one could be the Pixel Watch Fit.
Of course, they could also just be versions of the standard Pixel Watch, and perhaps that could launch with the Pixel Watch Fit name. So even if these leaks are correct, we can’t be sure whether there are actually two models or not.
Elsewhere, actual photos of the Pixel Watch (or Pixel Watch Fit) appear to have leaked and were obtained by Android Central.
The images show the watch in a black colour, sporting small bezels but a seemingly quite chunky build. It has a circular screen, a crown and at least one button. Unfortunately, the band seems to be proprietary, so you probably won’t have as many band options (or as affordable) as with wearables that use standard straps.
There’s not much else to see, as the watch wouldn’t start, and of course, we’d take that with a pinch of salt. But the Pixel Watch is leaking steadily now, suggesting it could be landing soon, and it could be the real deal.
Analysis: one Pixel Watch or two?
Back to the subject of the Pixel Watch Fit, although we don’t know if it’s a second wearable or not, we think it’s likely.
Assuming the name Pixel Watch Fit is used, it would seem odd that the standard model would be called that. The Pixel Watch name is shorter, simpler and more obvious. Calling it Pixel Watch Fit somehow suggests there should be a non-Fit version as well.
So if the leaked Pixel Watch Fit name is correct – which is a big if in itself – then there will likely be two models, although they may not launch at the same time.
