Genshin Impact – Yae Miko’s Abilities, Artifacts and Team Composition Guide

Any character in Genshin Impact can be your main DPS as long as you invest accordingly. This means that if you want Yae Miko to do the heavy lifting in your team, it’s totally possible. However, the ideal identity for Yae Miko is the off-screen sub-DPS. In this role, she should be in the field as little as possible and only activate when her skills and bursts are on cooldown. After Yae’s EEEQEEE is successively spammed, she has done her job and can be replaced by another party member. Here, we cover why Yae’s abilities make her a good off-pitch sub-DPS, along with suggested artifact stats and the best weapons players should equip her with.

Note: The builds suggested below are theoretically best suited for C0 Yae Miko. For a new character, it usually takes the theorists – bless their hard-working souls – a few weeks to test different builds and team compositions to arrive at the meta answer. So keep in mind that these suggested artifact stats have not been verified by practical in-game means.

Abilities

Yae’s Elemental Explosion Animation

From Yae’s kit, it’s clear that she shares similarities with Fischl, another Electro character. Fischl’s Oz can also be used as a turret to deal electrical damage when Fischl is out of sight. Likewise, Yae can deal constant electro damage to Sesshou Sakura even when she’s not in the field.

Elemental Skill: Sesshou Sakura (SS)

  • Yae, at most, can summon three Sesshou Sakura to the field at the same time. Each SS strikes 5 times over 14 seconds, dealing a total of 15 strikes over 14 seconds if three SS are present. Strikes also generate 1 elemental particle (only one SS can generate particles), so 5 elemental particles are also generated every 14 seconds.

Elemental Burst: Tenko Keshin (TK)

  • Every SS in the field transforms into a Tenko Electrobolt and inflicts AOE electro dmg. SS disappears after the TK skill is triggered.

Yae’s Elemental Burst costs 90, which is a lot of energy. It also only generates a small amount, 5 every 14 seconds, of elemental particles. So for her to work efficiently and her Burst to be available often, Yae’s Artifact sub-stats should focus on Energy Recharge (ER%) as much as possible.

Aside from a lot of ER%, try dumping his other sub stats in ATK%, Crit%, and Crit Dmg%. For Artifacts, the rule of thumb is to get 70% ATK, then other Artifact stats can go into Crit % (ideally 50% at least) and Crit Dmg% (ideally 100% at least). The ideal ratio between Crit% and Crit Dmg% is 1:2. The individual character’s weapon and base Crit% and Crit Dmg% stats should also be considered when maintaining the ratio. (All credit to Genshin Resources and NGA for discovering this beautiful mathematical model of optimized damage output.)

If you’re going to be using her as your primary DPS (and running her with an electro character that can double as a battery), you can experiment with more ATK%, Crit%, and Crit Dmg% rather than trying to max out. %ER. The character in the field when a particle spawns will receive more ER, so Yae’s energy will regenerate faster when she is the primary DPS. Yae also comes with 20% crit in her Ascension stats, so keep that in mind when balancing sub stats.

I would say that since Yae needs as much ER% as she can get, hitting around 40% Crit (before factoring in Yae’s Ascension Crit bonus) and trying to hit 200% Crit Dmg overall – artifacts and weapon stats included – would already be an ideal build.

Artifact sets

Yae's Elemental Burst
Yae’s Elemental Burst

Artifact sets that give bonus ER% or increase Electro DMG work well for Yae Miko. You can try mixing and matching the following sets:

  • Emblem of Broken Fate:
    • 2 pieces: RE +20%
    • 4 pieces: Elemental Burst Damage + 25% Energy Recharge. Maximum bonus of 75%.
  • Searing Fury:
    • 2 pieces: electro damage bonus +15%.
    • 4 pieces: Overcharge, Electrocharge, and Overconduction damage increased by 40%. 1s elemental skill CD when such effects are triggered.

A good sub-DPS set for Yae is the 4-piece nobility obliges Position:

  • 2 pieces: Elemental Explosion +20% damage
  • 4 pieces: Using an Elemental Burst increases the ATK of all party members by 20% for 12 seconds. This effect cannot stack

Weapons

Mihoyo released a new five-star weapon, Kagura’s Verity, especially for Yae Miko. It’s no surprise, then, that Kaguya Verity is indeed the best bet for anyone willing to pull out their wallet and bet on the soul-crushing weapon banner. Other easier to obtain weapon options are also included below. Keep in mind that your weapon choice will affect how you should build your Artifacts. For example, if Yae is equipped with Kagura’s Verity, you can focus on increasing the Crit% substats rather than the Crit Dmg% substats.

Truth of Kagura (5 stars)

  • At level 90, Kagura’s Verity gives 66.2% Crit Dmg.
  • Weapon Effect: “Gets the Kagura dance effect when using an elemental skill, which increases the elemental skill DMG of the character using that weapon by 12% for 16 seconds. Max 3 stacks. This character will gain a 12% bonus to all elemental DMG when it has 3 stacks.”

Celestial Atlas (5 stars)

  • At level 90, Skyward Atlas gives ATK +33.1%.
  • Weapon Effect: “Increases elemental DMG bonus by 12%. Normal attack hits have a 50% chance to gain the favor of clouds, which actively seek nearby enemies to attack for 15 seconds. Inflicts 160% DMG ATK. Can only occur once per 30s.”

The Widsth (4 stars, good F2P option)

  • At level 90, Widsth gives 55.1% Crit Dmg.
  • Weapon Effect: “When a character enters the field, they get a random theme song for 10 seconds. This can only happen once every 30 seconds. Recitative: ATK is increased by 60%. Aria: Increases all elemental DMG by 48%. Interlude: Elemental Mastery is increased by 240.”

Team comps

Yae can fit into many different teams as an off-field sub-dps. I’m also of the opinion that you can literally shuffle any team and use them in the overworld (your favorite characters > metacoms), but here are some recommendations for more serious content like the Abyss.

Electro Battery Team Comp

  • Yae’s energy needs are a concern, so characters who can be her battery are good choices for team comps. If you have Raiden, I would suggest running Yae with her. Raiden’s elemental shard, along with damage, comes with a generation of elemental particles for all party members. Fischl should theoretically also meet the needs of emergencies.

Swirl Team Comp

  • This section previously included superconducting teams for Yae, but as pointed out by Genshin players, superconducting teams aren’t really powerful. Sad! I love the aesthetic and it works for me, but other elemental reactions are better in terms of damage.
  • Whirlpool teams are always great with Yae. Try running Yae, Raiden (drums), Kazuha (whirlpool), and Bennett (healer).
