At this point, glitches in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim are not only meme-worthy, but also expected, though it’s always joyful when they occur.
Over the years, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has gained quite a reputation for being a buggy mess, and while some are harmless or even quite funny, others can cause inconvenience. Even with last year’s anniversary edition of Skyrim packed with groundbreaking glitches, it seems clear that after more than a decade, this epic open-world RPG will forever be a source of graphical and gameplay glitches. However, that’s part of the reason the game has stayed in the limelight this whole time, and it’s often the funniest examples that gamers like to show off.
In a short clip uploaded to the Skyrim subreddit user jessamars recently came across a Whiterun guard going about his business. Only their job doesn’t seem to involve walking like a normal guard, as they seem to float like in water. Indeed, the last part of the video shows them “swimming” in another direction, despite the absence of water in the immediate vicinity.
This is just one of the many reasons the game is known for its litany of happy glitches. Even if it calls into question the quality assurance that Bethesda has put in Skyrim, it allows for fun conversations online. It’s not just this game in the series that’s known for issues involving NPCs, though. A user recently spotted an Imperial Legion soldier floating through the air in Oversightit’s apparently not uncommon for players to roam the vast open landscape of Tamriel to find some of the city’s protectors rising above the ground, seemingly without using any magic.
At this point, it’s hard to even jump through a discussion without mentioning all the craziest bugs and glitches that exist in Skyrim. This obviously does not take away from the fact that the game is very popular in general. Its expansive world, deep knowledge, and dedicated modding community that keeps the game alive with new ideas make it one of the most popular games of the last 10 or so years, but its reputation for visual glitches is certainly justified.
As for the continuation of the franchise, let’s talk about the Elder Scrolls 6 is now rampant, with many wondering when Bethesda will actually announce it, let alone release the game. With the studio launching star field This year, EST fans are left in the dark wondering when the next installment of the epic fantasy series will see the light of day and also if it will be as buggy as previous games.
Skyrim is now available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
