Few would consider Elden Ring adorable, but one fan manages to use a camera trick to make the game look like it’s in miniature mode.
Say that Ring of Elden has gone down well among players would be an understatement. In addition to being one of the most anticipated video games of 2022, Metacritic currently has it at 96 on current-gen consoles and 95 on PC, making it one of the highest-rated releases of all the time. Its popularity stems from the developer’s formula for creating brutally punishing games that are challenging yet fun for players. However, while the aforementioned words “punish” and “difficult” would describe the game, few would call it “adorable”.
Yet that’s what a YouTuber called Flurdeh tried to do. A video uploaded a few days ago shows Ring of Elden but from a different point of view. By using a tilt method to alter the camera’s perspective, the game takes on a unique look, making everything look like everything was designed as miniature models, with tiny NPCs and enemies swarming the terrain. The result actually makes the FromSoftware title look almost cute.
This isn’t the first time Flurdeh has done something like this. With mods, video games can have an isometric perspective, and there are a number of titles, such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Skyrim, which can be made adorable using flipping. It is perhaps worth saying that Flurdeh’s work is not the same as a fan creation. The games run through a tilt and shift lens are the official releases that have just been modified with a new camera angle and specific technique to give it that signature miniaturized look.
Although the game hasn’t been out that long, there are already a bunch of Ring of Elden mods available. Some of them improve the visuals, like implementing a high-definition map or improving the moveset, and there’s even one that simply allows players to pause the game.
In addition to that, Ring of Elden the speedruns came in thick and fast. With the discovery of the “zip glitch”, which allows players to skip entire chunks of the game, it was possible for people to complete everything at breakneck speed. One of the last records shows that someone finished the game in less than seven minutes. This feat alone shows how devoted the fan base is, especially since Ring of Elden itself is hard enough. Although it’s a pretty dark and dark title, it’s interesting how the perspective can shift when viewed through Flurdeh’s lens.
Ring of Elden is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
