Elden Ring almost let you choose the next lord of Stormveil Castle

Elden Ring gives the player more freedom than any other FromSoftware game. If a particular boss or area seems too difficult for you, you can always go explore somewhere else, upgrade with runes, and come back to try again. However, it’s pretty linear when it comes to questlines, giving the player little to no choice over how things go – unless you just kill the NPC of course. However, FromSoftware specialist Zullie the Witch suggests that a removed quest would not only have given you a choice in the game, but also allowed you to play kingmaker.

Godrick the Clerk reigned over Limgrave from his seat in Castle Stormveil, that is, until the arrival of the Terni. Data extracted from the game code by Zullie revealed that the deleted questline included Gostoc, Kenneth Haight and Nepheli Loux, the quest culminating with the Terni crowning one of the three as Lord of the Castle, and thus all of Limgrave ( thank you VG247).

Zullie explained how Nepheli Loux would end up taking the throne, but according to data found by them, a deleted voice line suggests things could have turned out differently. Once you defeat Godrick, Gostoc can be found stomping and cursing his corpse. His left arm is missing, possibly used by Godrick for transplant purposes, but that’s not all. “I am Godrick’s son, no doubt,” Gostoc declares in his suppressed voice. “Could you give me this crown?

Zullie theorizes that this voice indicates that the Terni received Godrick’s crown as a key item after defeating him, and had the choice of giving it to Gostoc, Kenneth, or Nepheli, making one of them the ruler of Stormveil. It’s unclear if the choice would have made a difference in the game, maybe each of them would have given you a different reward.

Although, if you knew the truth about Gostoc, you probably wouldn’t want to give him the crown. It turns out that after showing you an easier way to the castle, the guardian follows you around and steals runes every time you die. At one point, he even locks you in a room.
