Some additional details about Disney Speed Stormthe Mario Kart-like racer which is supposed to arrive later this year was released recently. Disney Speed Storm was officially announced in February and now the platforms for which the free game will be available are also available for the public.
The game, which was considered a rival of Mario Kart Almost immediately after its announcement, it will have a traditional split-screen view, offer online multiplayer, and offer cross-platform functionality. However, until now it was unclear how many platforms the new game will arrive on. When it was announced, it was teased that the title would be coming to PC and consoles, but no further information was provided.
A new trailer showing gameplay from Disney Speed Storm cemented what users will be able to play the game on and it turns out that will be almost everything. At the end of the video, it was shown to be coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC both on the Epic Games Store and Steam and on Switch via the Nintendo eShop.
The platform information is the latest news to add to what has aired since the official announcement. This includes additional information on some of the racers that will be usable when the game finally arrives. The first trailer revealed that people could play as Mickey Mouse, Captain Jack Sparrow, Mulan, Sully from Monsters Inc.., Goofy, Donald Duck and others, but earlier this month Baloo the Bear from The jungle Book was also announced as a member of the Brawler class of racers.
In addition to Brawlers, Disney and Pixar characters can also be Tricksters, Speedsters, and Defenders in what also appears to be some sort of homage to the type of riders people can choose in runners like Mario Kart. Different classes will have special abilities that can be useful when trying to win a race.
The announcement that Disney and Pixar are getting into the kart racing video game genre has some hoping that at the very least there might be themed karts in Disney Speedstom this would go hand in hand with the appearance of the characters who drive them and might even have special abilities and executables reminiscent of their pilots. Whether it could eventually be added to the game is still an open question, as is exactly when people can start getting their hands on it.
Disney Speed Storm will be available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
