Destiny 2 The Title SMG Guide: How To Get The Guardian Games Pistol Fast

The Guardian Games return to Destiny 2, pitting players against each other in a friendly competition to see which of the three character classes will reign supreme. Whether bragging rights are your thing or not, you’ll want to pick up the Guardian Games’ new submachine gun, The Title. This nifty little gun features some of the best perks in the class, as well as a new Guardian Games-only trait called Classy Contender.

If you lean into the Guardian Games, you’ll likely get multiple rolls of The Title, but your first chance at the gun will require you to complete the event’s opening quest, “Best in Class.” It’s not particularly difficult, but it’s something you’ll want to knock out quickly in order to start playing with your new gun and fully open up your Guardian Games options. Here’s how to quickly clear the quest and claim the title.

Talk to Eva Levante

Your quest begins in the tower with Eva Levante, the event vendor who shows up in the center of the courtyard. To start, you’ll want to claim your Guardian Games class item, which you get for free. After that, choose a “Contender Card” from Eva. You’ll need to complete a playlist activity like a Strike or Gambit match, so pick the map that matches what you want to do next – you should only need to complete one activity, so all options are equal.

When you start your business, you’ll want to earn laurels, one of the main currencies of the Guardian Games. Laurels drop when you wear your Guardian Games class item whenever you kill strong enemies – anything with an orange health bar or yellow health bar – or when you take down enemies with your abilities. You can earn laurels anywhere, as long as you are wearing your Guardian Games class item. This stage also requires you to earn a Medallion, but if you kill enemies to get Laurels, you should earn one along the way. We completed this stage in a single Strike.

After completing your activity and earning a few Laurels, you will return to the Tower to place your medallion on the large podium in the center of the courtyard. Return to Eva and she’ll give you another item, the Medallion Case, which tracks the Medallions you earn and the Laurels you wear at any given time.

Head next to Zavala and he’ll introduce you to some new Guardian Games items. The first are Vanguard Medals, which are like Triumphs you receive for doing things in the Guardian Games playlist. Medals unlock for all sorts of reasons, like killing three melee enemies in quick succession, earning killstreaks with specific weapons, using your abilities, and more. There are also three new Guardian Games playlists that you can access from the Tower’s Courtyard screen in the Director. The Recreational Playlist is a little easier and more laid back, while the Training and Competition Playlists are a little more serious. Jump into the Recreational Playlist and collect any Vanguard Medal to continue the Best in Class quest. You’ll get one for pretty much anything you do, but a quick and easy way to earn one is by taking on three weak enemies quickly.

Claim the title

Return to the tower after clearing a Recreational Playlist activity and you can complete the quest. Talk to Zavala first, who will give you a new item to track your scores, then head to Eva to get your first copy of The Title.

The Title is an important SMG because it has a high rate of fire and solid range that makes it similar to other great SMGs, like Funnelweb, a current favorite. What could set The Title ahead of other competitors is its new original trait, Classy Competitor. With this gear, you gain Class Ability Energy with every kill. The gun also fires Void ammo, which means you can synergize it with the new Void 3.0 skins and shards, which allows the gun to fire volatile rounds.

Grab more title rolls

The first copy of The Title you get comes with Demolitionist and Vorpal Weapon for its perks, but Bungie noted in its recent This Week at Bungie blog post that you can earn various rolls of the weapon, as well as a version Masterworked with double perks in the third and fourth slots. From what we can tell, however, the title doesn’t just fall from the Guardian Games business – at least, not into the recreational and workout playlists. It seems very likely that if you want extra rolls of The Title, you need to earn the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum Torches in-game and earn their rewards.

Lighting the torches is part of the “Guardian Games: Medallion Battalion” quest that you can pick up from Eva. It tracks your progress in dropping medallions for your class on the Tower Podium, awarding points based on the rarity of the medallions you drop – the highest points are for Platinum medallions, while Bronze awards the lowest. Deposit enough medals and you’ll unlock the ability to light a torch behind the medallion podium in the tower, which will unlock a reward for the week. After unlocking the Bronze Torch, our rewards aren’t unlocked yet, suggesting you’ll have to wait for the weekly reset to actually reap these rewards. You can light up to eight torches in a week – two for Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum tiers – with corresponding rewards for each torch.

So while we’re not sure exactly what you’ll gain from these torchlights, it looks like better versions of The Title are very likely to drop here. We’re also waiting to see what potential rewards will come from the Guardian Games: Competitive playlist, which is only accessible on weekends. The idea is to play the Training playlist during the week to unlock special buffs for your character, then play the Competition playlist during the weekend to unlock better rewards and earn more medallions for your class. We’ll update this article when the Competitive Playlist unlocks with more information.
