Conservative satire site The Babylon Bee has been banned from Twitter for misinterpreting White House trans official Rachel Levine

The conservative satirical news site The bee of Babylon had his Twitter account frozen for intentionally referring to a transgender White House official by his birth gender.

Seth Dillon, the Beeshared a warning from the social network on Monday saying that the Bee had broken its rules against “hateful conduct” and would be blocked from posting further tweets until it removes the offending content.

the BeeThe tweet, which was still online on Monday afternoon, names Dr. Levine as its “Man of the Year” and links to an article repeatedly describing her with male pronouns and terms.

Twitter Rules ban users deliberately abusing specific trans people or deliberately referring to them by their old names, known as deadnaming, on the grounds that these actions are intended to “dehumanize or degrade” trans people.

It comes after Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is leading his state’s effort to criminalize trans medical care for those under 18, was also censured by Twitter for misinterpreting Dr. Levine.

Mr Dillon said: “We’re not deleting anything. The truth isn’t hate speech. If the cost of telling the truth is the loss of our Twitter account, then so be it.

“They could, of course, delete the tweet themselves. But they won’t. It’s not enough for them to delete it. They want us to bend the knee and admit that we engaged in hateful conduct. .”

He later added, “It’s the word ‘man’ that’s problematic, not ‘male.’ of a person makes him a man.”

A Twitter spokesperson said FoxNews“The account you referenced has been temporarily blocked for violating our hateful conduct policy. The account owner is required to remove the offending Tweet before regaining access to their account.”

Dr. Levine has long been a target of the American right, both in his previous role as Pennsylvania’s public health chief at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and in his new role as the president’s deputy health secretary. Joe Biden, for whom she was commissioned an Admiral in the United States quasi-military public health corps.

The 64-year-old pediatrician began her transition in 2008 and became a transgender woman in 2011, making her the first openly transgender government official to be confirmed by the US Senate.

Earlier this month, USA Today named her one of its twelve National Women of the Year, alongside Vice President Kamala Harris and Olympic gold medalist gymnast Simone Biles, which has angered Mr. Paxton and the Bee’the item.

Mr Paxton’s tweet was not actually deleted, with Twitter instead attaching a tag stating that he had broken rules on hateful conduct but would be left online so as not to impede public discussion on the words of a chosen one.

The Christian Post, a non-satirical evangelical newspaper, also said its account had been frozen for a tweet referring to Dr. Levine as a man. Republican Congressman Jim Banks faced a similar penalty last year.
