Battlefield 2042 could be headed to Game Pass

Battlefield 2042 suffered a pretty poor first half, to put it mildly. The addition of new content was pushed back and its player count dropped as people decided not to stick around to wait and see if the game would ever improve. EA and Dice haven’t given up yet, and it looks like the next attempt to breathe new life into the latest Battlefield game might just be with the help of Game Pass.

Xbox owners in Europe reported that Battlefield 2042 briefly attached a Game Pass tag to its store listing, reports Wccftech. The tag was quickly removed, but the screenshots are still online. Battlefield 2042 has been available to EA Play Pro subscribers since launch. If it really is coming to Game Pass, that likely means it’s being made available to anyone who signed up for EA Play, a service included in a Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

FIFA 22 was also spotted sporting a Game Pass tag around the same time, which if anything serves as further proof that Battlefield will soon be joining the service. The latest edition of FIFA tends to be added to EA Play around this time of year, so it seems likely that FIFA 22 will be there and Game Pass very soon. The fact that he was apparently accidentally slapped with a Game Pass tag alongside Battlefield 2042 implies that Dice’s maligned shooter will be joining him.

While it seems likely, don’t plan to sink hours into Battlefield on Game Pass just yet. Not so long ago, the same thing happened to Resident Evil Village. A Game Pass tag was added to its store list and then removed without explanation. However, Village has yet to find its way to Game Pass, which could mean that was a mistake, and could also mean Battlefield getting the same treatment was a mistake as well.

As for the effectiveness of adding Battlefield 2042 to Game Pass, that remains to be seen. Guardians of the Galaxy made its way onto the service, for a princely sum, shortly after Square Enix revealed that the Marvel game had underperformed. If the plan was to get more people to play and talk about it, then mission accomplished. Dice hopes to do the same for Battlefield 2042 before its first season if it does indeed come to Game Pass soon.
