April Melohn shared how she felt watching her boyfriend Jake Cunningham cast Rae Williams for the finale of “The Ultimatum” in an interview with The Daily Beast.
“Seeing him let me walk away crying like that and then approaching this new girl he just met a few weeks ago like, ‘Hey gorgeous’ – in the same tone that I remember him approached me when we first started dating — it was cringe-worthy,” she says. “It was also just disrespectful, and it broke my heart.”
“The Ultimatum” from “The Ultimatum” follows six couples where one person is ready to marry their partner and the other is unsure. Throughout the season, contestants select a new partner from one of the other couples to do a “trial marriage” with. They live with that person in a three-week “trial marriage” and see if there is a “connection” that might be stronger than the one they have with their original partner.
After three weeks with their new partner, participants are reunited with their original partner for a second “trial marriage”, where they finally decide whether they would be better off marrying their original partner, having a new relationship with their partner try or leave. only.
Rae and Jake chose each other as trial spouses. In the end, they had each left their original partners but did not end up together. In the season finale’s “Ultimatum Day”, Jake met up with April to tell her he wasn’t going to propose. During his breakup speech, he also told her “me and Rae aren’t going away together,” which seemed to directly contradict what happened next.
April said she was comforted when Jake told her he wasn’t choosing to be with Rae during the season. “The fact that he didn’t choose me hurt me,” April said. “But hearing her say, ‘I don’t choose you, but I don’t choose her either’ made me feel better.”
However, after Jake and April’s conversation, Jake and Rae reconnected onscreen. During the season finale, Jake presented Rae with a plane ticket to take a trip all over the world together, which seemed like the start of a new relationship together.
In the end, Jake and Rae didn’t make that trip and they eventually decided to give each other time to transition between their breakups rather than start dating. Rae previously told Insider that Jake is currently single and “his DMs are down.”
April said during the show’s reunion special on Wednesday that she and Rae’s original partner Zay Wilson “both got put on the shit of the stick” because their partners “instantly” got each other. connected. “Watching this unfold, I could tell immediately that he wanted to be back with Rae,” she said at the reunion.
She also revealed at the reunion that she started dating someone new a few months after the show and spoke more about that relationship in her interview with The Daily Beast.
“This guy just showed up, upset me, we went on our first date, I didn’t think about it,” she told The Daily Beast. The couple have already moved in together.
“I was just like, ‘OK, we’re going to an awkward dinner, I’m going to go home, yada yada yada. And here we are six months later, we’re still dating,” she added.
