Among us he was endangered

It seems that the people writing the questions for Jeopardy include a fan of video games. Occasionally, the game show features a question based on a popular game; this time, Among Us from InnerSloth did it (thanks, PC Gamer). Luckily the question wasn’t that hard, you didn’t need to have played the game to know the answer as long as you paid attention to some memes.

Of course, by Jeopardy rules, you are given an answer for which you have to guess the correct question. In this case, the question was “The slang adjective for someone you think isn’t what it seems, especially if they might be in the impostor game among us”. It was easy, and luckily contestant Mattea got it right with “What are we?”

Sus might seem like a relatively new word that you only hear from zoomers, but as Inverse points out, it’s quite the opposite. “The shortening of suspect to ‘sus’ first occurred in England and Wales as early as the 1930s as police jargon. Instead of using it as a descriptor, like ‘this person is sus’, British cops used the abbreviation to refer to discovering crucial evidence or information as having “clarified something” or conducting an investigation as “clarifying a situation or person”.

Previous games to feature on Jeopardy include Portal and The Last of Us Part 2. Portal was referenced in an episode last year, where a set of Double Jeopardy categories were named after items in the game. Strange Bedfellows” was a reference to the Portal 2 chapter where Glados settled on a potato. “You Can’t Have Just One” referred to the portals themselves, where they always come in pairs, and of course, “The Cake Is A Lie” was a category where everything had to do with the word “cake”.

As for The Last of Us Part 2, a fairly straightforward answer read “The long-awaited sequel to this PlayStation game revisits Ellie and Joel after a zombie-filled cross-country trek.”
